WE CARE 2017
With our biggest team turnout yet, SSDG headed down to Frogs Hollow for our 11th year volunteering for ‘We Care’ – an annual event put on by Herman Miller with the support of a number interior design and architectural firms in Vancouver. Each firm comes up with a craft for 250+ kids to make unique gifts for loved ones.
We Care takes place at Frog’s Hollow Neighbourhood House, an organization dedicated to connecting community; from children to families to seniors; however, this event specifically focuses on brightening up children’s holiday season. The design community comes together and provides all the materials needed for over 200 children to create their own unique gifts for family and friends.
The children pour into the neighbourhood house at 3pm, and for a solid three hours go from station to station making their creations with the assistance of the design volunteers. SSDG had a continuous flow of kids eager as always to create their own bag. One parent said, “the tote bag was their child’s favourite gift to give and they looked forward to making it every year.” One child even made a bag that said “Family” on it for her friend because her friend couldn’t make the event and the bag is her favourite gift to give! As always, the We Care event was full of creativity, joy, and of course…crayons!
