ACL, a global data-driven audit management software company was growing beyond the physical limitations of their existing office space and decided that this was the perfect opportunity to start from scratch and create an environment that is a reflection of their dynamic and diverse culture.
From the project outset, the goal was to achieve a new workspace that visually and functionally aligned with the ACL corporate values and workstyles, providing an environment that supports & encourages staff to excel, and facilitates recruitment and retention. Employee engagement was a critical component of making this goal a reality. A team of department representatives dubbed the ‘Transformers’ was established to involve the staff and receive feedback on key design decisions throughout the project.
A creative layering of two concepts was adopted: ‘Global Reach, Local Roots’ and ‘Heroes’. The first was an overarching concept that symbolized the local roots of ACL in Vancouver, while acknowledging their growth into a global brand. The second was an internal idea that represented the heroic qualities that ACL and their staff try to emulate on a daily basis, both in the office and out in the community. The space pays tribute to local, global and fictional heroes, as well as a tongue-in-cheek acknowledgement to famous and (occasionally) misunderstood anti-heroes.
The new office design was successful in achieving all of the clients goals, and going one-step further to additionally promote new workplace standards that encourage people to cross-pollenate within the company; support each other, share ideas, and inspire collaboration. The adopted design strategies facilitate flexibility and adaptability of their workplace in the future, and promote well-being through a healthier office environment in which exercise and interaction is planned for and encouraged. “…it was a total game changer for our culture, engagement and brand.” – Kathy Enros, Vice President of Talent at ACL
